Specialized Treatments for Dental Implant Complications

Our office section on Dental Implant Complications and Revision Therapy treats, on average, 15-20 patients EACH MONTH with a range of implant-related complications: peri-implantitis, poorly-placed implants, aesthetic issues, functional complications, nerve injuries, perforated sinus, fractures, bone graft failures, soft tissue graft failures, and others. Over the last 20 years, we have created specific protocols for managing such patients, including surgical treatments, restorative treatments, and emotional and financial challenges that such patients often face.

Here is an example of a patient with a poorly selected and positioned implant for this site with severe cantilevered restoration. The patient complained of food impaction and chronic pain related to plaque entrapment and poor access to hygiene.

The revision therapy included atraumatic removal of the dental implant and site development with bone graft, followed by digitally-guided and planned implant placement for support of teeth that were more biologically compatible, functionally stable, and aesthetically superior. The patient was happy at the end but not without going through extensive time, additional investment, and multiple procedures.

4-dimensional dentistry is no accident!
