Stem Cells Save Lives!

For decades, doctors have harnessed the unique ability of stem cells to treat leukemia and genetic blood diseases.  But now, researchers are discovering that these cells have the power to heal, to fight disease, and to regenerate damaged or aging tissue throughout the body.  To fully understand why they hold the potential to change your child’s medical future, we’ll let you know more about stem cells.

Stem cells are able to repair or replace damaged tissue.  This is why scientists and doctors are so excited about the growing role of stem cells to treat disease, injury, and the deterioration of tissue due to aging.  Amazingly, after our birth and into adulthood, we keep a store of these stem cells in certain parts of our body, including teeth.  Stem cells can be obtained from extracted wisdom teeth, other adult teeth, or primary (baby) teeth.

Mesenchymal stem cells can form tissues such as bone, nerve, muscle, and blood vessels.  They also help body tissue to repair itself, and they play an important role in healing by suppressing inflammation.  Though located in a number of places in the body, mesenchymal stem cells can be found in especially high concentrations in the healthy dental pulp of teeth.  Freezing cells in a youthful state preserves their future ability to generate replacement tissue and heal the body.

These are some of the conditions that may be treated:

• Type 1 Diabetes
• Spinal Cord Injury
• Motor-Neoron
• Heart Attack
• Jawbone Regeneration
• Stroke
• Liver Disease
• Cornea Repair
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Alzheimer’s
• Osteoporosis
• Autism
• Crohn’s Disease
• Muscular Dystrophy
• Periodontal Disease

If you’re interested, this is all you need to do:

  1. Contact our office: schedule an appointment and let us know that you’re interested in banking stem cells.
  2. Tooth Collection: Dr. Kazemi will do your teeth extraction and collect teeth or tooth.  Collecting and sending teeth to be stored is free. You will only pay for storage fees directly to Store-A-Tooth.
  3. Transport: Store-A-Tooth provides overnight shipping to their lab, directly from our office, in a temperature-controlled Tooth Transport Kit.  In use worldwide for over 20 years, the Save-A-Tooth device (the main component in the Tooth Transport Kit) helps protect the dental pulp in your child’s teeth during transport to their lab.

Once at Store-A-Tooth:

Stem cells are extracted from the dental pulp and grown in culture.  Store-A-Tooth will conduct a total cell count and then confirm the presence of the expected stem cells using flow cytometry.  They also preserve a portion of the dental pulp in its original state.  Store-A-Tooth will send you a report detailing exactly what is present in the samples they are banking for you.  Finally, your sample is carefully cooled to a permanent storage temperature of less than -150° C (-240° F) in a vapor-phase liquid nitrogen cryopreservation vault.  If you need to access the stem cells, contact Store-A-Tooth and they will safely prepare and transport the cells to the clinic where the therapy will occur.
