Previously, we have described the reverse torque technique for easy and minimally-invasive removal of Titanium dental implants. However, this technique may not work for removal of Zirconia or ceramic dental implants due to their design and material characteristics. Zirconia implant come in either 1-piece or 2-piece design. While the explantation technique may work for the 2-piece design (it has an internal channel or well for engagement of the explantation device), it does not work for the 1-piece design.
