Removal of a Dental Cyst (Peri-Apical Granuloma) and Bone Grafting for Dental Implant Placement

The Story:

Lesions of endodontic origin presenting as peri-apical radioleucencies on conventional x-rays are quite common. The first step must always be endodontic evaluation for possible treatment and then consideration for extraction / site graft & implant placement if guarded. This patient had severe tooth pain who seen by her dentist for emergency extraction. Patient was later referred to us for evaluation of the large residual bony defect.

Treatment

A sequential digital diagnostics with CBCT, enucleation with biopsy, and ridge bone grafting was performed. The lesion was confirmed as a periapical granuloma.
