Lacerations (cuts)

Types of lacerations treated at our office:

• Oral lacerations
• Facial skin lacerations
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Nose
  • Ear
  • Eyes
  • Forehead
• Scalp lacerations

Managing oral lacerations:

1. If you suffer cuts to your mouth, place a clean gauze over the area and apply pressure.
2. Replace gauze every 30 minutes
3. Contact our office at (301) 654-7070 for an emergency evaluation
4. Treatment will consist of cleansing the laceration and plastic closure
5. Antibiotics may be prescribed for one week
6. Dissolving sutures are often used which typically last for 5-7 days

Managing facial or scalp lacerations:

1. Place clean gauze over the area and apply pressure
2. If possible wrap a roll of gauze and tape in place.
3. Contact our office at (301) 654-7070 for an emergency evaluation
4. Treatment will consist of cleansing the laceration and plastic closure
5. Antibiotics may be prescribed for one week
6. Sutures are are removed in five to seven days.
