The Story:
Patient with missing upper left molar. His chief goals were to replace the missing tooth to regain his function and keep the adjacent teeth healthy.
Treatment:
The key to success in this patient was precise placement of dental implant and a well designed restoration by our team prosthodontist. For planning, study models of patients teeth were fabricated and diagnostic x-rays were obtained. A mock surgery was done on the models to predict precise position of the implant within the patient’s bite. Then a plastic guide was made to help Dr. Kazemi position it as planned. The height of the chosen implant must be accurate to avoid penetration into the sinus. This procedure was done under local anesthesia and nitrous oxide gas as patient did not want to be asleep with IV sedation. Following three months of healing, patient continued with the prosthodontist for impressions and fabrication of a customized abutment and crown. The photo below shows the final crown on the implant. The teeth adjacent to the implant have older crowns and were recommended to be replaced for better aesthetic results.
