Dental implant placement is simple and requires only conservative preparation of its site. Patients maybe placed under IV sedation anesthesia or nitrous oxide sedation for maximal comfort. Postoperative swelling and pain is often minimal and the recovery is rapid. Implants are often placed as single stage procedure avoiding exposure procedure traditionally performed. Following a 2-3 month healing, the implants become integrated and ready for placement of restorations. A transitional prosthesis may be fabricated for use during this period. In some occasions, a two-stage procedure may be performed requiring implant exposure. Immediate implant placement (done at time of tooth extraction) and immediate restorations are offered when appropriate. These approaches can decrease the overall treatment time considerably while maintaining excellent long-term prognosis and success.
